There’s nothing worse than having a rush order for customized mouse pads only to find that the end product is done all wrong. Maybe the image is all blurry or it’s too big with the lettering cut off from the edge, or you’ve miscalculated and the image is now too small and doesn’t fill the customized mouse pad. Whatever is the issue, it’s a sinking feeling to have when you need these promotional items for an upcoming trade show.

The best way to avoid these problems is not to have them in the first place by correctly submitting proper artwork to the printer. This is easier said than done as not many people have printing experience but your boss stuck you with the job. If that’s the case, here are some tips on providing the correct artwork for customized mouse pads.

Image Size

Once you’ve selected the size of the mouse pad you wish to customize, you need to take note of the measurements. The image you will be submitting needs to be 1/2″ longer than the mouse pad in length and width. This is to account for the 1/4″ bleed on all sides which will be trimmed off from the actual customized mouse pad. So for example, if you want a mouse pad with the dimensions of 8″ X 6″, you will be submitting an image of 8.5″ x 6.5″ This is important to remember if you have lettering around the edges.

Image Resolution

You might be thinking that you have the perfect design but not to cover the size of the mouse pad. Blowing the image up to cover the area is not a good idea as the image will get blurry. It is best to provide the printing house an image at minimum a 175 dot per inch (dpi) resolution but typically, the standard is 300 dpi.

Color Palette

The colors you choose might look good on the monitor but it might be a different case when you see it on a mouse pad. You should verify that you will be happy with the color combination by first testing it on paper with a color printer. Your mouse pad might differ slightly again from the paper version but at least you will have a good idea if you can live with it.

By following these simple tips, it will help out with the process of ordering custom printed mouse pads and ensuring a smooth and hassle free transaction.
